For out of the heart come evil thoughts – murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
These are what defile a person.
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point
is guilty of breaking all of it.
‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for Me One Who will be ruler over Israel,
Whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.’
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, Who is Himself God
and is in the closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known.
John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God,
Who takes away the sin of the world!
Simon Peter answered,
‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’
Jesus answered: . . . Anyone who has seen Me
has seen the Father.
Taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus,
because He will save His people from their sins.’
Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are ill.
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give His life as a ransom for many.’
For the Son of Man came
to seek and to save the lost.’
God made Him Who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous,
to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
That power . . . which He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
This same Jesus, Who has been taken from you into heaven,
will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.’
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
For we were all baptised by one Spirit so as to form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing,
but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
