Ainu (Japanese: アイヌ語) is the sole survivor of the Ainu languages, spoken by members of the Ainu ethnic group on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. It has no generally accepted genealogical relationship to any other language family.
The Ainu language is sometimes considered endangered, but for some, that's all the more reason to get interested in it.
