Beginning Yaqui

Yaqui, also known as Hiaki and Yoeme, is a Native American language of the Uto-Aztecan family and Cahitan sub-family based in the coastal plains of southern Sonora, Mexico. Out of the mutually-intelligible Cahitan dialects, only the Yaqui and Mayo languages survive today. It is spoken by about 15,000 people in Mexico and 1,000 people in the Southwestern U.S., many of whom live on the Pascua Yaqui reservation in Tucson, AZ. For pronunciation see: http://www.native-languages.org/yaqui_guide.htm
