Old Slavic or Old Church Slavonic (словѣньскъ ѩꙁꙑ́къ), was the first Slavic literary language, based on the speech of the 9th century Slavs of Macedonia. The 9th-century Byzantine missionaries Cyril and Methodius standardized the language for translating the Bible, as part of the Christianization of the Slavs.
